What a night!
I'm sure those at the May Blues Jam would agree it was one of the best we've had since restarting the Hamilton Blues Jams this year.
Is this a sign of things to come?
You betcha baby!!!
Next month (June 14) we will be re-launching the Hamilton Blues Society(HBS) with another awesome jam night and you're all invited. We'll be privileged to have special performances by Mike and Sally Garner (BOP Blues). You won't want to miss that! Gordon and the crew at Biddy Mulligans will keep the drinks flowing and of course there will be Blues music all night long. This jam will occur during the National Field Days so get into Biddy's early as it won't take long to fill up. You know the deal.
What I really liked about the May Blues Jam was that John, our great new MC, seemed to keep things flowing. He used a system that kept things flowing. Performers were added and removed after every other song so people kept being rotated. It seemed to flow well. And having Ian on sound control was a awesome. He kept sound levels consistent through-out the night. It meant he didn't get up to jam so I'll look forward to hearing him soon. Andrea was Club captain and in charge of coordinating the white board with John, which seemed to fizzle out somewhat after the night went on but that was kinda ok as things pretty much took care of themselves. The crowd was cool as usual, no heavy dramas, just a whole lot of good vibes and dancing.
Great team work from the newly formed HBS committee!
If you have any feedback about the jam or this blog just post a message to me.
See you at the next jam - Thursday 14 June, 8pm, at Biddy Mulligans.
And now for some pics I took at the jam.
First up, some usual suspects, Eric with his Vikings,
or is it just Eric thats the Viking?

Darcy Perry and Craig Bracken arrive, are greeted by Pauline
and then get straight to it!

And next up were Chubb and Max.
Top act after top act.
MC, John, takes his turn at keeping the place alive.
Great job at being the MC John, I think we'll keep you on! Let me know if you need any giveaways, I have plenty of harps, mics, shoes, mobile phones, oh and tambourines too!

The atmosphere at the Blues Jams is laid back. Many people enjoy watching on like John, a member of the Hamilton Jazz Society ...
... and Maxine (President of Hamilton Acoustic Music Club) and her friend. Many enjoy the night out with friends over a drink or two (or in Willy's case four, five or six.)
As the night rolled on things really started to swing and people couldn't resist shuffling on their feet.

I observed Pauline, in the black NZ Music month tee shirt, first she was dancing ...
... then she approached the stage ...
... and then shes singing through the PA while dancing!!!
Way to go Pauline!! More! More!

So as you can see for yourself there ain't no better place to be on the second Thursday of each month than down at Biddy Mulligans on Victoria Street, Hamilton, where the Blues tradition is kept alive by some of the best people around.See you June 14th at Biddy's!!
